Here we go Again
I suppose there are two ways to wake up each day:
Good God! It’s morning … or
God, it’s a good morning!
It’s all about perspective and we can apply this to other areas of our life. Instead of saying that I “have” to go to the gym, I can rethink it and be grateful for mobility or the means to afford a gym. Instead of bemoaning another meal to prepare, I can take a breath and thank God for people with whom to eat.
How about in your ministry?
Do you get into a rut, thinking that you “have” to do something? Lent might be like that. Prepare the ashes, the liturgies, the prayer aids, the speaker series, etc. Before you know it, you’ll be rolling your eyes and thinking, “here we go again!”
And that’s exactly the point- here we go again and what a wonderful thing that is! The Church provides us with Lent in order to make sense of the ordinary and also to step out of it for just a little while. Not surprisingly, we can share this reframing attitude with our students. If they see us excited about Lent, they’ll be excited about it.
This week’s resources speak to this:
A Fruitful Lent Begins in the Heart (Aleteia)
A Lenten Readalong (Ignatian Spirituality)
A Not-so-Radical Proposal for Your Lenten Season: Do Nothing (The Jesuit Post)
